From the East
Well, here we are, closing in on March. As this cold weather
is left behind for the year I hope that each of you faired well and are ready
for warm weather.
We now are in progress of renovating the outside of the lodge
and making plans for the inside. Due to new Village laws and standards, we had
to regroup and change the plans for the inside renovation. Again we are not
moving as fast as we want, but we’re getting there.
We have been meeting every Tuesday, whether we have work or
not. Our Entered Apprentice has been working on their catechism and our new
officers have been putting in their time also. It’s good to see the interest
being put forth from each member.
This past month we had our official visit from the District
Deputy Grand Master. Supper was served and lodge was opened. Still the concern
of the Grand Master is to be sure we handle each new candidate properly. I
concur with this 100%. As a strong foundation supports a building for many
years, so is a strong foundation for each new candidate is just as necessary to
make him a good mason.
Also this month I had the pleasure of attending Brother
Robert Irwin’s 90th birthday. Brother Irwin will celebrate his 65th year as a
mason in July of this year. He no longer drives, but when he needs to get
somewhere, he has his lady friend drive him.
As we move into the month of March I realize that ¼ of my term, as master is
already gone. W. B. Tom Power, (our Secretary) told me that I would be surprise
how fast this year will go by. How right he is, I hope that the rest of the year
goes by as well as my first three months. I also want to take the time to thank
him for his support. He truly makes my interment as master a pleasure.
Benjamin Franklin once said “Masonic labor is purely a labor
of love. He who seeks to draw Masonic wages in gold and silver will be
disappointed. The wages of a Mason are earned and paid in their dealing with one
another. Sympathy begets sympathy, kindness begets kindness, Helpfulness begets
helpfulness, and these are the wages of a Mason.”
Take time to say hello to your fellow man. In the fast pace of life these days,
we forget to say a simple hello to someone. Just hope that when your turn comes
to stand before the Great White Throne, you hear from He who sitteth as the
judge supreme the simple word; Hello.
John Harvey
